Carmen Petruzzi (University of Milan-Bicocca), for the project Female Philanthropy & Social Energy in New York City: History of Italian and American Settlement Houses and Catholic Charitable Institutions (1890–1956).

Carmen Petruzzi is a tenure-track researcher at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Her research focuses on the history of education and diaspora studies, with particular attention to the educational experiences of the first Italian migrants during the Great Migration. Her work examines the schooling trajectories of Italian Americans in the United States, the role of progressive educators and school administrators of Italian descent, the teaching of Italian as a foreign language, and initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting cultural
identity. Her most recent publications include Due maestri a colloquio. Angelo Patri e Giuseppe Lombardo Radice (2024), winner of the 2025 SIPED Prize; Frammenti di vita italoamericana.
