Alice Martignoni (PhD, University of Toronto / EPHE Paris), currently Teaching Scientist in Italian Language and Linguistics at the University of Graz (Austria), is a scholar of Italian Linguistics and Romance Philology. Together with Daniela D’Eugenio, she serves as co-coordinator of the Canada-US English section of the international project Osservatorio degli Italianismi nel Mondo, which brings together scholars from around the world to develop a lexicographical resource documenting Italian loanwords in North American English.
The Ragusa Foundation Research grant supports the organization of a workshop for the members of the research group at the Accademia della Crusca in July 2026. During this week-long meeting in Florence, participants will collaborate to review existing data, refine methodological approaches relevant to the Canada–US English section, and discuss future directions of the section’s work. One potential outcome of the workshop is the development of an edited volume dedicated to Italian loanwords in North American English.
