Giorgio Bertellini is Professor in the Departments of Film, Television and Media and Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. He is the author of award-winning books on, respectively, the ways silent Italian and American cinemas portrayed Italians’ migration to the US and on the American fascination for, and use of, Valentino and Mussolini in the 1920s. A Radcliffe, Tiro a Segno, and Guggenheim Fellow, he is currently working on two projects — on the exchange between US photojournalism and Italian neorealism and on postwar Italian journalists’ popularization of a middlebrow, and indulgent, account of Fascism.
