Damiano Garofalo is an Associate Professor in Film & Television History at Sapienza University of Rome. His main areas of research include the history of Italian cinema from a cultural and industrial perspective; the history of Italian television with particular reference to forms of consumption and social dynamics; and the relationship between cinema, history, and memory, specifically in the context of the representation of the Holocaust in audiovisual media. More recently, he has focused on the distribution and circulation of Italian audiovisual media abroad, with particular reference to exchanges between Italy and the United States, the history of local television in Italy, and the historical processes of mediatization of sport, with specific reference to Italian football. His latest book, C’era una volta in America. Storia del cinema italiano negli Stati Uniti, is going to be published in English translation by Palgrave Macmillan.
