Pier Mattia Tommasino is an Associate Professor of Italian and Mediterranean Studies at Columbia University. His research historicizes the intellectual and religious traditions, and the scholarly and literary practices, involved in the generative contact between the Italian peninsula and the Muslim world. His first award-winning book, The Venetian Qur’an: A Renaissance Companion to Islam, was published in Italian in 2013 and in English in 2018. His second monograph Port Voices, Courtly Texts. Slaves, Scholars, and the Making of Late Medici Orientalism is currently under review. He founded the Italian and Mediterranean Colloquium.
