Giulio Armeni, Marianna Boiano and Monica Magnani for the project What’s in a Meme? The View from Italy.

Giulio Armeni is a writer, comedian, and memer. Since 2010 he has run the satirical project Filosofia Coatta, which has over 200,000 followers. He teaches at the Scuola Holden in Turin, and collaborates, amongst others, with Lucy – Sulla Cultura, and Treccani. Since 2022, he has been touring Italy with his meme-show Fuga dall’Algoritmo (Escape from the Algorithm). In 2023, he won the Premio Satira Forte dei Marmi and was included in the Italian Forbes Under 30 list.

Marianna Boiano is a social media manager and a memer. She holds a degree in digital communication. Communication, both through traditional media and new digital assets, has always been at the core of her interests. She is passionate about the intersection of visual arts and pop culture. Her page, Crudelia Memon, is, at heart, a Moleskine where she jots down her thoughts, sometimes raw, sometimes refined, sometimes meant to be shared, and sometimes simply to exist.

Monica Magnani is a social media manager, copywriter, and memer. She holds an MA in Linguistics and Communication and is the author of VabeRagaA, a very Italian meme page. Her activity centers on artistic, editorial, and educational initiatives, within which she participates in public events and contributes to research projects, interviews, pop articles, and books. Her academic interests focus on language studies, with particular attention to the sociological analysis of new media and the exploration of complex narrative worlds.
